Dealing with Adversity –
Every athlete, at some point in his/her sports career, will be challenged with adversity. Some will have to work extra hard to remain academically eligible. Some will fight to come back after an injury. Some will struggle to prove him/herself to a coach or teammates. Some will experience hardships within their families or communities that threaten to shake them to their core. This workshop will provide participants with a framework for dealing with adversityRecruiting 101 –
Do you have a dream of playing sports on the college level? If so, understand that very, very few high school athletes are recruited to play on the collegiate level. It is crucial that you understand the many rules that govern the recruitment of student-athletes and that you find a way to stand out amongst the crowd. This workshop will provide the basics of recruiting and will give you the opportunity to ask questions of an expert in college recruiting.
Financing College - Gary Thomas
Of the 330,000 high school seniors who played football, only 20,000 college freshmen continue to play in college, and less than 10,000 received any financial assistance (Answers.com). Do you have a plan for how you will finance your college education? This workshop will provide concrete tips on how student-athletes finance college.
Nutrition, Health and Fitness -
As a student-athlete you frequently push your body to its limits. This workshop will provide information to help you maintain a strong and healthy body so that you can maximize your potential and prevent unnecessary sports injuries.
Maximizing Your Potential –
The media is full of examples of athletes who have been caught up in scandals. Often these incidents have major effects on the recruitment and/or current or projected finances of these athletes. This workshop will address the code of conduct that is expected of athletes and how becoming involved in these types of incidents can affect an athlete’s chances of receiving a scholarship and his/her earning potential.
